About Me

I am currently a Consultant Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon working in both the National Health Service and Private sectors.

My NHS clinics are at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London and at The John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford for both adults and children. I also have an honorary contract with the University of Oxford.

My private clinics are in Buckinghamshire (BMI Chiltern Hospital) and in Oxford (The Manor Hospital Nuffield Health). Appointments are available at any of these locations.

The units I currently work within offer the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial services and at various times I have been an integral member of the units offering temporomandibular disorder treatments, managing salivary gland disease and trauma in both adults and children.

In particular I provide a TMJ service involving joint reconstruction in both children and adults utilising biological methods and alloplastic techniques.

I was first appointed as a consultant in September 2003 following comprehensive training in oral and maxillofacial surgery including dual qualifications in medicine and dentistry and fellowships in dental surgery, general surgery, and maxillofacial surgery.

I am registered with the General Medical Council and I am a member of the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

I am also a member of the British and European Associations of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons.

I have the honour of becoming the President of the Strasbourg Osteosynthesis Research Group (SORG) from January 2020. This is a worldwide research and education group. We deliver numerous courses to train surgeons for the future and also try and carry out research between different centres to promote further health improvements.

I will also be the President of the European Society of TMJ Surgeons from 2022 and this is also indeed a great honour. Currently I am working as the lead for the United Kingdom, via the British Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons, in trying to develop better treatment across the country for temporomandibular disorders.

As can be seen from the above I am actively involved in training and education and research. Previous positions of responsibility have included being the training programme director for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery in my region as well as the Divisional Educational Lead for the Oxford University Hospitals Trust in my division. I have been an advanced trauma and life support faculty member and an advanced paediatric life support instructor.

I have been in the past a tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Chairman of the local specialty training committee for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. In addition, I have been the Clinical Director for departments in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

My training in Dentistry, Medicine, and General Surgery and Maxillofacial Surgery has all been within the United Kingdom with a sabbatical period in the United States. I have chaired paediatric maxillofacial surgery courses and contributed to numerous courses, lectures and demonstrations in the United Kingdom and Europe and teach internationally.

My ethos for care has always been based on trying to treat patients in a collaborative fashion and to deliver quality care with both integrity and kindness.

I would be very happy to take any general questions from both patients, or from colleagues, as required and my main contact point is through my Secretariat.

In my spare time I try and relax by watching good thriller films and I am a keen runner having competed in several marathons.
